Shop Closures

We will have to close at 1pm on Saturday 12 May because we are both involved in a rehearsal and performance. We hope this does not cause inconvenience.

Also we will be closed from Thursday 17 May, re-opening on Tuesday 29 May. We will be back in time to handle repairs during the half term break.

Click to view slideshow.I am better at repairing instruments than messing about with computers. Hence the pictures are not in the order I chose! They show:

Making a new push rod for a bassoon, a very worn low A flat pad, the low F pad which fell out – not much adhesive there! So I re-padded it with a nice new pad and a generous helping of shellac.

Instruments come in all shapes, sizes and colours!

Interesting dents to remove from a trumpet bell. I enjoy that work.

A spot of lunch.

Flute service. The keys had jammed up. Mainly, I suspect, because someone had poured lashings of silver polish over it, as can be seen on the upturned keys. It has now been restored to good health.

Alto flute service. What a big lovely sound!

Click to view slideshow.There was an interesting day of concerts, masterclasses and tutorials on 3 December. I particularly enjoyed listening to the RNCM Wind Ensemble. We had a trade stand there offering free repairs through the day.

Professional repairs

I am equally happy to re-pad instruments, or to make the smallest alteration to get a much-loved instrument working again. You can ask me to do any size of job from minor repair to major overhaul.

The shop is busier at some times than at others but I can usually finish repairs within a week or less.
